JOB SUMMARY/ JOB DUTIES:

The General Utility, under the direction of the department manager/supervisor, is responsible for assisting in any and all phases of production, preparation, sanitation and/ or packaging of the product. Providing general help labor where needed in all areas of the plant.

Assists in the production of goods to include, but not limited to: pre-weighing ingredients and staging for mixing operations, cutting of raw materials, removal of discarded product/materials, and picking out defects on conveyors based on specifications.

Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of manufacturing including but not limited to: cardboard removal, floors swept/mopped, counters and equipment cleaned to ensure health and safety requirements are maintained. Ensures area is organized according to 5S/production standards.

Lubricates, hand cleans parts, and assembles production equipment.

Performs a variety of general manual labor tasks within the site, (e.g., lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading materials, assisting in the handling of heavy materials, making minor repairs, etc.).

Works with others as a team to complete tasks in an efficient manner to ensure the line is ready for startup and/or shutdown as well as to minimize downtime.

Assists other employees with their assigned work tasks.

Packages or assists in packing, finished goods, parts, materials, and equipment for customer delivery.

Delivers and Picks up materials in various parts of the plant when needed.

Performs routine maintenance to equipment.

Follows department rules, procedures, routines, and requirements to complete assigned duties.

If qualified, may be asked to operate machinery within the site.

Practices and adheres to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), Allergen program, and Safety guidelines/procedures.

The Packaging Machine Operator, under the general supervision, is responsible for the safe, efficient and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery.

Reads production schedule and plans accordingly.

Efficiently maintains the operation of packaging machinery by monitoring codes, dates and prices.

Maintains an adequate supply of roll stock and ensures all packaging materials available for each machine.

Adjusts machine micro logic set-up as needed to maintain an efficient and low waste operation.

Understands and demonstrates the necessary skills involved to efficiently operate packaging equipment in so far as, but not limited to, machine setups, changeovers, proper running, procedural adjustments, sanitation cleanup, and shutdown.

Properly plans ahead for machine changeovers and efficiently changing from one product item to another.

Monitors and adjusts each machine to ensure proper cut off of film and bags have proper end seals and back seals as required.

Ensures machines are running at standard speeds.

Monitors and checks weights and product appearance as required.

Properly accounts for product run off and handles this product accordingly; sorts through and reworks all good product.

Keeps machines and work areas clean, wipes packaging machines off and blows down area when required.

Immediately reports any maintenance problems to Maintenance Mechanic or Supervisor.

Correctly interpret drawing dimensions, quality specifications, and other critical features

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Supports all manufacturing and facility needs by repairing and/or maintaining all equipment necessary to do all jobs. Assists in the installation and startup of new equipment to support all manufacturing and facility needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform routine and non-routine general/preventive maintenance to ensure machines and business systems continue to operate safely and efficiently, and the physical condition of equipment and buildings do not deteriorate.

Respond to manufacturing and facility needs in a safe, timely, and effective manner to minimize production and operations downtime.

Inspect drives, motors, belts, fluid levels, and filters.

Assemble, install, or repair equipment components, plumbing, and machinery.

Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them using prints, manuals, and/or catalogs as necessary.

Operate wire and stick welding equipment.

Operate cutting and other machine shop equipment (drill press)

Operate tow-motor and scissor lift.

Maintain maintenance area and parts stores in orderly and neat conditions.

Follow up on work to ensure problems are resolved or operations continue safely and effectively.

Perform work in a safe manner and follow all shop safety rules.  Any other tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION:

High School diploma required.

One-year certificate from college, technical school, or manufacturing training program preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 2 years maintenance experience.

Industrial maintenance is preferred.

Experience in 480-volt 3 phase, and high voltage DC electricity preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to troubleshoot electric, air systems, and hydraulic systems.

Knowledge of lockout/tagout, arc flash requirements, and hot work permit.

Ability to work overtime as needed; ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond urgently to down equipment.

Effective team player, self-motivated, and a quick learner.

Good communication skills with the ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English and effectively.

The Food Service Worker is responsible for the supervision of inmate labor as well as team members assisting with the food service operation in a correctional facility. This position will also accurately and efficiently prepare and serve a variety of food items in accordance with assigned work instructions and menus as well as utilize a variety of food preparation utensils and machines in preparing food.

Ensure that all food is stored properly and in sanitary manner.

Serve food during planned meal schedules and according to department policies and procedures.

Utilize kitchen utensils/equipment to cook, prepare and serve food according to recipes. Use proper utensils to serve menued portions and as appropriate to meet clients' nutritional needs.

Follow all food safety regulations pertaining to sanitation, food handling and storage.

Train other food service workers.

Maintain a clean work area/environment that includes cleaning of refrigerators and/or freezers, cooking equipment and serving equipment.

Follow facility uniform policy.

Keep up with garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean from excess food/trash.

Ensure kitchen is kept clean and that the environment is ready for food prep/serving including sweeping, mopping and dishwashing.

Proper portions and utensils are being reviewed for service.

Promote a healthy and safe work environment for other employees/inmates.

This role includes physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods of time.

Be able to stand and be on your feet for much of the scheduled shift.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required:  High School Diploma or Equivalent, and you must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred:  Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience is preferred.
